The lowcountry is full of countless fishing piers and docks that are great to cast off of. Some of these piers require you to pay a fee to fish off of them, while others just require you to have a fishing license. Below are 5 different local piers you can head to in Charleston and depending on which pier you visit, depends on what you'll catch!

Though the Folly Beach Pier is currently under construction until 2023, this 25-foot-wide pier is great for casting your line 1,000 feet into the Atlantic. Located on Folly Island, this is the place for fishing newbies to be! Easier reel in's are Red Drum and Speckled Trout, but if you're up for a challenge, you can try to for Kingfish, Sharks and Cobia.

The Mount Pleasant Pier stretches into the Cooper River, found off to the side of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. This is another good place to catch a variety of fish species depending on the season. Sheepshead, Flounder, Cobia, Red Drum and Speckled Trout are popular reel in's for this pier with plenty of space and shade throughout the day.

If you're looking to go downtown to do some fishing, the Charleston Waterfront Pier has wide riverside paths near the Pineapple Fountain with an amazing backdrop looking out towards the Cooper River. This pier is great for reeling in Redfish and Flounder!

Palmetto Islands County Park Fishing Pier has relaxing views of the water. Head over to the creek and throw in your lines to catch Redfish and Crab, both perfect for a family grilled lunch in the park. Don't forget that you have to pay to get into the park!

Located at the south end of Pitt Street, Pickett Park Bridge lies in the intracoastal waterway. This means you'll have several varieties of fish on your line, but the main catch is the Blue Crab! This is always a great add to any dinner!

Check each pier's working hours, seasonal fish catches and local tide chart before packing up to casting your rod for the day!
